There are many different procedures, medications and treatments that are used for horses. Some of these surgeries are more common than others and some may have serious side affects.
Equine Digital Flexor Tendon Injuries- Ultrasonography is used to diagnose and the Sheath Tenoscopy (keyhole surgery) is used to see the surface of the tendon. MRIs are also used with this injury.
Airway Surgeries- 19th century was the earliest time that the Hobday was used. The Hobday was the removal of the ventricle stabilizing the cartilage restoring some of the function. Then in the 1970’s new Ingenious procedure which was made to replace to affected cartilage and out of the airway , but this procedure had a chance that it may collapse, become infected, or be tied to far back causing the horse to cough or throw-up food
Colic-

Painkillers-
1) Phenylbutazone (Bute) is a type of NSAID that is very common. It is highly effective and inexpensive but it has questionable effects on cartilage and it could cause gastric ulcer development.
2) Flunixin (Banamine) helps with the treating o abdominal pain and lameness
3) Meloxicam (Metacam) reduces acute joint inflammation.
Euthanize: Euthanize is an option but for most people it is a last resort. Euthanize is the same for all animals, it is commonly referred to “putting down”, and is a way to keep the animal from pain that will never go away.
